The drawbridge in Mystic reopened to vehicle traffic after closing for a few hours Friday afternoon due to a mechanical malfunction, according to the Town of Groton Police Department.

The Bascule Bridge on the Mystic River closed about 11:50 a.m. Friday, stopping vehicle traffic in either direction, and reopened about 3 p.m., police said.

The closure involved a malfunction of the gate arms that come down to block traffic when the bridge is up for boats to pass through. Crews responded to the scene to fix the gates and traffic was flowing as normal, police said.
