East Lyme police: Three people charged after theft at CVS

East Lyme — Town police said they seized 235 items, worth about $7,800, and made three arrests after investigating an alleged organized retail theft at the CVS on Pennsylvania Avenue in Niantic.

According to arrest reports, an East Lyme police officer, dressed in plain clothes, noticed about 4 p.m. on Wednesday “suspicious activity consistent with organized retail theft” in the parking lot and went into the store. The officer observed individuals, who had carried large bags into the store, leaving the store and going into a vehicle that had relocated to an adjacent parking lot.

Police said they stopped the motor vehicle on State Road, and an investigation led to the seizure of the items.

Monique Coley, 26, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with organized retail theft of items worth less than $10,000, third-degree larceny and illegal possession of shoplifting device. She also was charged with first-degree failure to appear in court after police found she had an active warrant.

Tyiesha J. Harper, 37, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with organized retail theft less than $10,000, third-degree larceny and illegal possession of shoplifting device.

Craig C. Ragland, 38, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with organized retail theft less than $10,000 and third-degree larceny.

Coley and Ragland were scheduled to appear Thursday in New London Superior Court Geographical Area 10 courthouse, while Harper is due to appear in court on June 13.
