East Lyme ― Police arrested a 31-year-old Montville man Monday after police say he forced his way into the home of the mother of his children and kidnapped her.

Police said James D. Clanton forced his way into a home on Hilltop Drive in Niantic and drove with the victim, against her will, and two children to his residence at 10 Carolina Dr., Apt. 35, in Montville.

Montville police were waiting at the residence and took Clanton into custody for East Lyme police.

Clanton was held on a $50,000 bond and was due to appear Tuesday in New London Superior Court. He is charged with home invasion, third-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping and risk of injury to a minor.
