New London police investigating report of card skimmer at Dollar General
New London ― Police said Tuesday they are investigating a report of a card skimmer found inside the Dollar General store at 478 Colman St. over the weekend.
Chief Brian Wright in an email said police were called to the store at 7:53 p.m. Saturday. He said when they arrived, officers interviewed people and seized “an item believed to be a card skimmer.”
Wright referred to card skimming as a “serious threat that can lead to unauthorized access to your bank accounts,” and provided tips to help residents protect themselves, including inspecting ATMs and card readers to look for attachments or devices that seem out of place, covering PIN numbers when entering them and using contactless payments, like mobile wallets or tap-to-pay cards, when possible.
