Dirt bikes, scooter seized in New London
New London ― Police said they seized two dirt bikes and a scooter on Saturday and made two arrests during a “coordinated initiative” to address the illegal operation of the vehicles in violation of city ordinance.
Police have not yet released details or circumstances of the arrests but said in a social media post that additional arrests are pending.
“The New London Police Department is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all residents and deterring illegal activities that threaten public safety,” the department’s Facebook post reads.
Dirt bikes on city roads have been a problem for years. The City Council in 2018 passed an ordinance formally prohibiting the operation of the vehicles on any city street. The ordinance bans the sale of gasoline to dirt bikes and ATVs and allows police to seize and keep the vehicles. The ordinance imposes fines that start at $1,000 for a first offense.
