Groton Town police checking businesses for skimming devices
Groton ― With reports of illegal credit card skimming devices cropping up across the region, Groton Town police said they conducted checks of local businesses on Monday.
Police said they did not find any of the devices installed at the two dozen businesses they visited. The devices can be attached to a point-of-sale terminal or ATM to illegally capture credit and debit card information.
It was learned through conducting these checks that most businesses are checking their devices regularly, police said in a statement.
Earlier this month, New London police seized skimmers from two different businesses ― the NSA Supermarket at 332 S. Frontage Road and Dollar General at 478 Colman St.
Anyone with information regarding illegal skimming devices or other criminal activity are encouraged to contact the Town of Groton Police Department at (860) 441-6712.
