Pawcatuck man charged with secretly recording girl in bathroom
Stonington ― A 41-year Pawcatuck man is due in court next week to face charges he used his cell phone to secretly film a 15-year-old girl in the bathroom of a local apartment.
Joshua Garrett was charged Sept. 17 with three counts of voyeurism with malice, three counts of risk of injury to a minor and second-degree breach of peace after police obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Stonington police began their investigation after a Feb. 6 complaint by the victim’s mother. The woman said her daughter had discovered a hidden cell phone that was recording in the bathroom where she was taking a shower.
A forensic examination of Garrett’s phone revealed multiple deleted videos and voyeuristic images of the girl, police said. Police said Garrett used a cell phone app called Body Editor to enhance the size of the victim’s breasts in some of the photos discovered by police.
Police said Garrett admitted recording the victim. After he made several suicidal comments in a text with a witness in February, police said Garrett was hospitalized for mental health treatment.
Free on a $40,000 bond, Garrett is due to appear Oct. 1 in New London Superior Court.
