Report of weapon leads to brief lockdown at New London high school

New London ― Police were called to New London high school on Wednesday for a report of a weapon on campus that led to a brief lockdown and delayed dismissal.

Police secured the school, and the campus was quickly “deemed safe,” the police department and school district said in a joint statement.

The lockdown was issued at New London High School Multi-Magnet Campus at 1:59 p.m. and lifted at about 2:30 p.m.

No other information was immediately released by police or the school district.

School Superintendent Cynthia Ritchie and New London Police Chief Brian Wright thanked those who reported the information that led to the lockdown. The school district uses an anonymous alert system that allows anyone ― students, staff, families and community members ― to report concerns or ask for help.
