Rocky Neck State Park brush fire now ‘contained’
East Lyme ― East Lyme Fire Deputy Chief Erik Quinn said crews were able to return Sunday morning to fight a brush fire that broke out at Rocky Neck State Park Saturday, and got it under control.
“The fire’s contained,” Quinn said Sunday morning. “They’ve got fire lines on all sides of it.”
East Lyme firefighters had left Saturday night, leaving the fire in the hands of a Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew, who Quinn said had stayed with it and monitored it through the overnight to ensure that it didn’t spread outside the fire area.
They came back Sunday at 9 a.m., he said.
East Lyme firefighters dropped any remaining burning trees to extinguish them, and put water in any places they find lingering smoke, also known as “ hot spots.”
He said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
