Preston ― A 78-year-old Thompson man died Sunday from injuries suffered in a one-car crash on Route 164, state police said.

Frederick W. Coonan, of 30 Valley Road in the North Grosvenordale section of Thompson, died in the 8:08 p.m. crash.

State police said Coonan was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla that crossed the southbound lane of traffic and into the shoulder of Route 164 where it struck a tree. Coonan was pronounced dead at the scene.
