Willington ― State police say a Norwich man died Sunday afternoon when his car went off the road and struck a tree.

Police said Paul F. Butcher, 80, of 2 Terrace Avenue in the Taftville section of Norwich, was driving his Chevrolet Caprice west on Turnpike Road at 12:25 p.m. when he went off the road and struck a tree in the left shoulder. He was brought to Rockville Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
