Waterford — Firefighters from several Waterford fire departments fought a fire Thursday evening that destroyed a barn at 110 Butlertown Road.

According to Cohanzie Fire Company Chief Todd Branche, the fire, which was called in at 8:15 p.m., took about 20 minutes to get under control once a tanker truck was set up and supplying water to the hydrant-less area.

No one was injured in the fire, but some animals may have perished, Branche said.

Records show Alan and Valerie Higley own the property.

Branche said firefighters used only one of the four available tankers despite hay, feed and other organic materials in the barn requiring extra saturation.

All five Waterford fire departments responded to the fire.
