Norwich police charge two in connection with October strangulation case

Norwich — City police said Friday they have charged two people in connection with a domestic strangulation case in October that sent a 35-year-old man to the hospital and led to the amputation of both of his legs.

Police said they charged Kristopher J. Prudhomme, 28, of 586 East Main Street, Apt. 1, on a warrant for first-degree assault, first-degree strangulation, cruelty to persons, and tampering with physical evidence.

They also charged Lauren E. Muskus, 21, of Monroe on a warrant for tampering with physical evidence.

Police said the arrests were the result of an investigation following an incident on Oct. 27, in which Pudhomme called 911 to report that his roommate, a 35-year-old man, "was incoherent and had red marks around his neck as a result of a possible suicide attempt."

City patrol officers and American Ambulance responded to the apartment, and the man was taken to the William W. Backus Hospital and later transferred to Hartford Hospital. The victim was in a medically induced coma for several days and his legs were amputated, police said.

On Thursday night, Prudhomme turned himself in to police and was released on a $250,000 bond.

Muskus, who turned herself in Friday morning, was released after posting a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear on Jan. 5 at Norwich Superior Court-G.A. 21, according to the police report.

Detective Kyle J. Besse and members of the detective division conducted the investigation.
