East Lyme police: Man removed packages from porch
East Lyme — Police charged a 29-year-old Jewett City man with sixth-degree larceny and trespass after they say he was spotted taking packages from the front porch of a Chesterfield Road home on Tuesday afternoon.
East Lyme police said in a news release that a Chesterfield Road resident saw, through a remote home surveillance system, an individual drive into the home's driveway and take the packages. The resident reported the incident to police about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said they determined who the individual was after information was shared with police departments in the area and a photo from the surveillance system was shared on social media.
Police said that with help from parole officers and the Groton Town Police Department, Ricky Rotondi, of 28 Tracey Ave., Apt. E, Jewett City, was taken into custody. He is due Dec. 18 at Geographical Area 10 courthouse in New London and he was remanded to custody of parole officers, police said.
"Thank you to everyone for their assistance in bringing this case to a quick resolution and your continued support in keeping our community safe," police said in the news release announcing the arrest.
