New London — As part of an effort to reduce impaired driving and alcohol-related traffic collisions, area police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on Water Street in New London from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. starting Friday, Dec. 15.

Officers will be targeting impaired driving, due to alcohol or drug use, at the checkpoint, which is funded by the state Department of Transportation Highway Safety Grant program. The grant also includes roving patrols to target unsafe and impaired drivers.
