    Charles B. Crosby

East Lyme — Police said they charged a local man with driving under the influence Sunday after the driver whose car he hit followed him until officers could apprehend him.

Police said Charles B. Crosby, 54, of 127 Black Point Road, Apt. 38, Niantic, was driving his Ford Escape west on West Main Street around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when he struck another vehicle. According to police, Crosby continued driving west and so did the driver of the car he struck.

Police said the female driver of the car called 911 to report what had happened as well as to update emergency personnel on Crosby’s location.

Officers, assisted by troopers from state police Troop F in Westbrook, stopped Crosby near the Interstate 95 southbound Exit 70 off-ramp. Police said he failed field sobriety tests.

Crosby faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading responsibility and following too closely.

Released on a $500 nonsurety bond, he is due in New London Superior Court Feb. 2.
