Old Saybrook firefighters extinguish house fire

Old Saybrook -- Firefighters extinguished a fire in a home on Fordham Trail Sunday morning.

The fire, which was in the basement, exterior and first floor wall, was reported by the homeowner at 11:54 a.m., according to a press release form the department.

The fire involved the home’s electrical system but Eversource was able to cut power to the home in just a few minutes so firefighters could safely extinguish the blaze. Power was out in the area for about 30 minutes.

Former Fire Chief JT Dunn, in his capacity as department spokesman, said Sunday night the home is not habitable. Firefighters from Old Saybrook, Essex, Clinton and Westbrook fire departments all responded, as did Old Saybrook Ambulance and Middlesex Hospital Paramedics.
