Residents of five New London apartments displaced after fire
New London — The residents of the five apartments at 12 Sharaf St. have been displaced after a fire at the back of the building tore off the siding and broke a few windows, according to New London fire Battalion Chief Tom Curcio. There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire, which started about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, was under investigation, Curcio said. It took about 15 minutes to put out.
"It took awhile to pull a lot of the siding," Curcio said, "because it was towards the rear of the house, and located underneath the rear porch of the house, and then it traveled up the rear siding."
Along with the New London Fire Department, the Subbase FAST team and Groton Ambulance responded.
The Red Cross is relocating displaced residents. Curcio said fire officials are hoping they can be back in their homes within 48 hours.
