No injuries reported in sizable Norwich garage blaze

Norwich — No one was injured Saturday night when firefighters battled a roaring blaze within a detached, six-bay garage on Prospect Street, Battalion Chief Tracy Montoya said.

Montoya said the call for the fire at 88 Prospect St. came in at 11:42 p.m. A resident made the call from nearby Howard Street.

Those first on scene saw flames in three of the garage’s bays, Montoya said. Video footage shows heavy smoke pouring from the building, which sits behind a 2½-story home at the same address.

Montoya said the house wasn’t damaged in the blaze, and no firefighters or residents sustained injuries. Volunteer and Mohegan Tribal firefighters assisted with the fire, which Montoya described as “multiple alarm.”

Crews had cleared the scene by 1:42 a.m. Sunday, Montoya said.

Capt. James Roberts is investigating the blaze. He couldn’t immediately be reached for updates on the condition of the building and what caused the fire.

City records show the property belongs to Joes Realty LLC, a group based in Naples, Fla.
