Second defendant sentenced in New London armed robbery
A man and woman have been sentenced in New London Superior Court for robbing a man at knifepoint in the parking lot outside the Ravi Mart Market on Broad Street in New London on Feb. 4, 2017.
Randall P. Sowa, 53, pleaded guilty to second-degree larceny and was sentenced May 17 to two years and one day in prison followed by five years' special parole.
His codefendant, Gloria Okoasia, had pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery and was sentenced in February to a year in prison followed by three years' probation. She received credit for time she served while her case was pending and has since been released from prison.
Police said they received a 911 call at 3:40 a.m. on a Saturday from the victim, not a store employee, reporting that he had been robbed of cash at knifepoint and the suspects fled in a Dodge pickup truck.
Police stopped the truck in the area of 74 Connecticut Ave., took the suspects into custody and seized the weapon they said was used in the robbery.

During both incidents, a man came into the store wearing dark sunglasses, told the victims he had a gun and demanded they place money into a white plastic bag he handed them.
