Norwich police arrest man in crash that injured two small children

Norwich — Police have arrested 32-year-old Carlos Davila on Saturday evening after they said he evaded the scene of a crash that injured two small children.

The two-car crash occurred about 7:15 p.m. Saturday near 281 Hamilton Ave. A pickup truck driven by Davila, whose last known address is 5 Cobble Way, Colchester, veered out of its lane and crashed into an oncoming car in the opposite lane, police said. A 3-year-old and 6-year-old who were in the car had serious injuries. The 3-year-old was transported to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and the 6-year-old was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment.

Police said Davila fled the scene of the crash. Norwich officers, with the help of a state police K-9 unit, located him in the area of Boyd’s Used Auto Parts on Corning Road in Norwich. He was arrested without incident, according to police.

He is being charged with two counts of second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, evading responsibility, interfering with police, driving without a license and failure to drive right.
