New London — A woman who prompted a multiagency search when she got caught in the current off Pequot Avenue early Monday safely made it back to shore, police said.

Police said they, firefighters and the U.S. Coast Guard began searching for the woman near 396 Pequot Ave. around 12:30 a.m.

After an extensive search, an officer located the woman on Pequot Avenue. The woman, who had gone out for a late-night swim, said she drifted until she made it to shore.
