Owner of paddleboard floating in East Lyme found safe

East Lyme — The owner of a paddleboard found floating off the coast of Black Point on Thursday morning has been identified and nobody is in danger, East Lyme police said Thursday afternoon.

The U.S. Coast Guard received a report, from a boater, of an unoccupied paddleboard on Thursday morning and enlisted the help of the East Lyme Police Department around 10:45 a.m., Chief Mike Finkelstein said. Police posted a picture of the board on Facebook and asked if anyone knows its owner, so police could ensure the owner's wellbeing.

Apparently a man left his paddleboard unsecured on the shore yesterday and it floated into the water. Finkelstein said police were able to find the owner through "the wonders of Facebook."

Prior to locating the owner, police and the Coast Guard received assistance from the Niantic and Goshen fire departments in their search for a possible missing person.
