New London — Police on Monday arrested a New London man after allegedly leading officers on a car chase through New London, Waterford and East Lyme with a 17-year-old female at the wheel.

According to police, 18-year-old Hank Fleetwood Jr. of 61 Franklin St. was wanted on an active robbery warrant when police observed him sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle near Manwaring Street and Mountain Avenue in New London on Monday afternoon.

After officers attempted to stop the vehicle with emergency signals and sirens, the vehicle sped through New London, Waterford and East Lyme, engaging officers in pursuit, New London police said. A description of the vehicle was not provided.

East Lyme and Waterford officers aided New London police in the pursuit, which ended on the Niantic Bay drawbridge on Route 156 in East Lyme after East Lyme police deployed stop sticks.

Fleetwood immediately was taken into custody and processed by New London police.

New London police charged the unidentified female juvenile with engaging police in a pursuit and reckless endangerment. She is scheduled to appear Oct. 22 in New London Superior Court.

Police charged Fleetwood with third-degree robbery, third-degree larceny and third-degree assault. He is being held at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center and is due Oct. 31 in New London Superior Court.
