Mashantucket police make arrest in stabbing, car theft

Mashantucket — Tribal police served a warrant Monday on Dontae Glen Johnson, a Baltimore, Md., man who they said stabbed another man in the face and stole his car last week.

Police said they went to 503 Pequot Trail on Oct. 17 and found a 43-year-old man with stab wounds, which were not life-threatening, to his face and neck. Police said the victim said Johnson, 42, was his attacker and had taken his car.

Crews took the victim to the William W. Backus Hospital for treatment. State police at Troop D in Danielson found Johnson with the stolen car “a short time later,” police said.

Johnson, charged Monday with first-degree assault and second-degree strangulation, already was in custody at the New London court where major crimes are tried because state police charged him Oct. 18 with third-degree larceny in relation to the stolen car, police said.

Arraigned Monday on the new charges, Johnson saw his bond upped from $300,000 to $500,000. Police said he’s in custody at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center.

Johnson is next due in court Dec. 3.
