One person dead, another injured in I-95 crash in R.I.

Richmond, R.I. — A Massachusetts man was killed and his passenger injured Friday in a fiery crash on Interstate 95 in Rhode Island.

Igor Nadtochij, 49, of 89 Alpine Place, Franklin, Mass., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred at 8:40 p.m. on I-95 south, two miles north of Exit 3, state police said in a statement Saturday.

A passenger in his car, identified as Kimora Hodge, 35, also of 89 Alpine Place, Franklin, Mass., was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was admitted with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The crash occurred when the driver lost control of his car, traveled off the road, re-entered the roadway and struck another car, then rolled over and caught fire, police said.

Both Nadtochij and Hodge were ejected from the vehicle.

The driver of the other car, identified as Frederick Steindler, 40, of New York, N.Y., was not injured.

The southbound lanes of the highway were closed for about a half-hour after the crash, before one lane was reopened for travel. All lanes were open by 11 p.m. after the crash site was cleared.

The crash remains under investigation by troopers from the Rhode Island State Police Hope Valley Barracks and the Collision Reconstruction and Forensic Services units.
