Driver killed in head-on collision in East Lyme Saturday

East Lyme — One person died in a head-on crash on Route 161 Saturday night, town police said.

Police said the driver of one vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene after the two-car crash around 11 p.m. A passenger in that vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle were flown by Life Star Helicopter to Hartford Hospital.

Besides East Lyme police, the Niantic Fire Department, Flanders Fire Department, Oswagatchie Fire Department Ambulance, and Lawrence + Memorial Hospital Paramedics responded.

Police said they are not releasing the name of the deceased driver until relatives are notified. The accident is under investigation and police did not say how the two cars collided. Anyone with information is asked to call East Lyme Police Department at (860) 739-5900.
