New London police union to collect donations for food center
New London — Members of the city police union, AFSCME Local 724, will collect food in front of the ShopRite in the New London Mall Saturday to benefit the Gemma Moran United Way/Labor Food Center.
The New London Police Union has collected food for the Broad Street center since 2004. They do so in partnership with the Capano family, which owns several local ShopRite stores.
This year's fundraiser will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and accept foods including turkeys, cranberry sauce, stuffing and canned goods, mac and cheese, tuna fish, peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned soups, pasta, rice and cereal.
