K-9 teams search Stonington High School

Stonington — Police dog teams from four local departments conducted a drug sweep of the hallways, lockers and parking lots of Stonington High School on Thursday morning.

The dogs did not locate any drugs in the school but did discover a small amount of marijuana in a car in the student parking area. Police said a male student was issued an infraction for possession of marijuana.

K-9 teams from the Stonington, East Lyme, Groton Town and Westerly police departments participated. A state trooper also attended.

Capt. Todd Olson said the teams went into the school at 9:25 a.m. and were out of the school 20 minutes later. Students remained in their classrooms while the dogs and their handlers conducted the search. The K-9 teams then moved to the school parking lots.

Similar sweeps occurred in December of 2014, October of 2015 and October of 2016. The sweeps have been done with the cooperation of school officials.
