New London tax preparer to serve a year for false returns

The operator of Providence Tax Services in New London was sentenced to a year in prison Monday and ordered to pay $219,180 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service for falsifying thousands of tax returns from 2011 to 2015.

Yves Aubourg, 50, whose business was known as Providence Tax Services, had pleaded guilty in October to aiding and assisting the filing of a false tax return.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Alker Meyer also ordered Aubourg to complete one year of supervised release, and pay $219,180 in restitution to the IRS.

The government lost $264,870 as Aubourg falsified information on returns including the fabrication of education and business expenses, dependents and charitable contributions.

The government said it would be recovering unpaid taxes from Aubourg's clients, and that his restitution amount would be reduced as money is recovered.
