Off-duty Norwich police officer charged with DUI
An off-duty Norwich police officer was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Officer Chase Chiangi, 32, was arrested by Farmington police after a routine traffic stop, and is due to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Jan. 30. Chiangi was driving his personal vehicle when the incident occurred, police said.
"The Norwich Police Department expects our officers to exercise good judgment and conduct themselves appropriately both on-duty and off-duty. Officer Chiangi has been placed on leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation," police Chief Patrick Daley said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
Chiangi has been a member of the Norwich Police Department since 2008.
