Old Saybrook — A driver whose Honda Civic landed on its roof off Interstate 95 south Monday afternoon was flown to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, state police said.

Police said town resident Shantell Dynese Winkler, 43, suddenly veered to the right between exits 67 and 66 about 2:30 p.m., causing her Civic to hit a curb, strike a tree and roll "several times" before landing on its roof.

Police temporarily closed both sides of I-95 in the area as a Life Star helicopter landed on scene.

Ambulance crews took Winkler's three passengers — a 54-year-old Sandy Hook woman, a 29-year-old Clinton woman and an 11-month-old Clinton girl — to Yale New Haven Hospital with suspected minor injuries.

Police said the heavily damaged Civic was towed from the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information may contact Trooper Angello Balbuena at (860) 399-2100.
