Police: Intoxicated woman crashed into fence behind Main Street Grille
East Lyme — Police on Tuesday charged a Massachusetts woman with drunkenly crashing into and damaging the fence behind Main Street Grille.
Police said Elizabeth L. Carlotta, 49, of Otis, Mass., crashed into the fence, which separates the parking lot from the train tracks, then backed up and pulled into a parking spot behind the restaurant at 252 Main St. in Niantic.
Police found Carlotta outside the laundromat next door and charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Police said Amtrak briefly halted its trains while officials determined whether the trains could pass the bent fence safely.
