Motorcycle accident closes part of Route 156 in Niantic

East Lyme — A motorcycle accident has prompted the closure of Route 156 (Main Street) between Smith Street and Cini Park, town police said Saturday night.

A motorcycle crashed into a guardrail in the area at 7:39 p.m., police Chief Michael Finkelstein said. The motorcycle operator was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Finkelstein warned motorists to expect traffic delays in the area as police investigate.
