Stonington — Police said they charged an a 18-year-old Pawcatuck man with sexual assault Tuesday morning after he was found in the bedroom of a 13-year-old girl.

Anthony P. Cross, 18, of 66 Greenhaven Road was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault and three counts of risk of injury to a child. He was arraigned Tuesday in New London Superior Court.

Police said they responded to a Pawcatuck residence at 10:15 a.m. after the girl's mother reported that an 18-year-old man, identified as Cross, was in the bedroom of her 13-year-old daughter.

Police said statements they obtained from those involved said Cross had spent most of the overnight hours in the girl's bedroom. Police said they further discovered that on two occasions over the past three weeks, Cross and the girl had engaged in sexual intercourse.

Under the law, police can charge someone with sexual assault if they have sexual intercourse with someone who is between 13 and 16 years old and are at least three years older than the victim.
