With tanker truck, firefighters stop Montville garage blaze

Uncasville — Using a 350-gallon tanker truck, Mohegan firefighters said they quashed a "well-involved" garage fire at 45 Driscoll Drive on Wednesday morning.

Firefighters said they knocked down the 10 a.m. fire in about 15 minutes, but had called tanker trucks from companies including Poquetanuck in Preston and East Great Plain in Norwich just in case.

Many contents of the attached garage, including a lawn mower, burned in the fire, which also caused smoke to fill the home. No one was injured.

Though firefighters feasibly could have stretched hoses from the hydrants on nearby state Route 32, they said it was faster to use tankers.

Firefighters from all four Montville stations, Mohegan Tribal and the city of Norwich were called to the scene. A Quaker Hill ambulance also was at the ready.

Property records show the home belongs to Raymond and Jeanne Wehling.
