Three women safe after Coast Guard search for disabled vessel

Waterford — The Coast Guard says it called off a late-night search on Sunday after spotting three women paddling to shore after their vessel was disabled.

At about 9 p.m. Sunday the Coast Guard and multiple Waterford emergency teams responded to the area near Shore Road after receiving reports of a vessel with a failed engine and three women on board. Cohanzie Fire Company spokesman Steven Frischling said Quaker Hill, Goshen and Jordan fire companies searched the town's coastline before the search was called off around 11:30 p.m.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Corey Mendenhall said three women were seen paddling safely to shore at Jordan Cove and the search was ended. A message left with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was not immediately returned.
