Owner, employee accused of selling marijuana out of Legends Smoke Shop

Stonington — The owner and an employee of Legends Smoke Shop are accused of selling marijuana-based products out of the Pawcatuck-based business.

Owner Justin Smith of 119 Jeremy Hill Road, North Stonington, and one of his employees, David Shemansky of Westerly, turned themselves in Thursday to state police Troop E in Montville on separate arrest warrants.

Numerous citizen complaints led to a joint investigation by the Statewide Narcotics Task Force - East Office, Stonington Police Department and the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection's Drug Control Division, police said.

Officers got a warrant to search the shop and found 13.5 grams of marijuana, 161 THC vape cartridges, 1,115.5 grams of marijuana edibles, several thousand wax paper bags, which are commonly used to package heroin, and $1,131 in cash.

Both Smith and Shemansky are free after posting $25,000 and $50,000 bonds, respectively. They are due to appear Sept. 18 at the Geographical Area 10 Courthouse in New London.
