Ledyard — A pedestrian died and a motorcyclist was injured Saturday in an accident near Foxwoods, fire officials said.

The name of the dead person was not immediately available from Ledyard Police.

The accident occurred at 7:15 p.m. Saturday on Indian Town Road (Route 214) between Foxwoods and Trolley Line boulevards, said Ledyard Fire Chief Jonathan Mann.

Crews from Ledyard and Mashantucket fire departments, along with American Ambulance, responded and found the victims on the side of the roadway. LifeStar medical helicopter had landed nearby to transport the pedestrian but Mann said the pedestrian was pronounced dead before the helicopter took off. The operator of the motorcycle was taken by ambulance to The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich for treatment of suspected serious injuries.
