UPDATED: Stonington police identify man wanted in stabbing of woman on Saturday morning

Stonington -- Police have identified the man wanted in connection with the stabbing of woman here Saturday morning as Carlton T. Henderson, 44, of 77 Mechanic St., Apt.1, Pawcatuck.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the stabbing and have obtained a warrant for Henderson's arrest on what Capt. Todd Olson called “domestic related charges” on Sunday.

Police said Henderson was last seen driving a tan 2005 Nissan Maxima with Connecticut plate AL73560. Police are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call them at (860) 599-4411.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries. She was flown by Life Star helicopter from Westerly Hospital to Yale New Haven Hospital where she was being treated on Sunday.

Police found the woman has been stabbed when they responded Saturday at 8:13 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at a Mechanic Street residence. Police detectives and the state police Major Crime Unit are investigating the case.

Henderson has a lengthy criminal record including being sentenced to three years in prison for a 2003 armed home invasion in which he and another man robbed four people at gunpoint in New London and then led police on an eight-mile, high-speed chase.

In 2009, while on six years of probation, he was arrested in Pawatuck for violating his parole by removing his GPS monitoring device.
