    State police release holiday traffic statistics through Wednesday morning

    Connecticut State Police reported holiday week call statistics from 7 p.m. Dec. 20 through 7 a.m. Wednesday.

    They had responded to 14,912 calls for service, assisted 649 motorists, responded to 952 accidents, 142 of them with injuries, four fatalities in Westbrook, Hartford, Windham and Bethany. State police made 76 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and issued 629 citations for speeding.

    State police also issued 2,027 hazardous moving violations, including for unsafe lane change, distracted driving and following too closely.

    During the holiday of 2018, state police issued a total of 659 tickets for speeding, 46 tickets for hazardous moving violations, 14 seatbelt violation tickets and 55 DUI arrests. State police responded to 550 traffic accidents 60 with injuries and three fatalities. Those statistics covered the period from 12:01 a.m. Dec. 21, 2018 to 11:59 p.m. Dec. 26, 2018.
