Early morning fire in Stonington displaces two residents

Stonington — An early morning fire Saturday at a single-family home at 985 Stonington Road has displaced two adult residents.

Wequetequock fire Chief Ed Dennett said the fire started just before 2 a.m. and was fully involved when firefighters arrived. The blaze likely was caused by a wood burning stove, but is still under investigation, he said.

The home was a complete loss. Fire officials knocked down what remained of the structure Saturday afternoon.

Sue Rochester Bolen, a spokeswoman for the Red Cross, said the organization assisted the two residents, who were not injured in the fire. The Wequetequock Fire Department was the main department to respond and was assisted by the Pawcatuck and Stonington Borough fire departments. The Stonington Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded.
