Police seize 54 pounds of marijuana at Voluntown home, charge two

Voluntown — State police arrested two Voluntown residents Friday on charges of operating a drug factory following the seizure of more than 54 pounds of marijuana.

The discovery was made during a search of the home of 35-year-old Kira Crystal Perry, at 663 Beach Pond Road, where troopers were assisting Adult Probation with a search of an individual on probation. Court records show Perry has a previous felony drug possession conviction, among others.

During their search, state police said they seized 24,658 grams, or a little over 54 pounds, of marijuana along with numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia, several containers of seeds and prescribed marijuana not in its original containers.

Also arrested was Jacob Butler, 26, of 73 Wylie School Road, Voluntown.

Both were charged with operation of a drug factory, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of over 1 kilogram of narcotics with intent to sell and illegal storage of narcotics.

Held in lieu of a $20,000 bond, both are due to appear March 27 in Norwich Superior Court.
