    UPDATED: Three hurt in crash involving two motorcycles in Groton

    Groton -- Three people were injured, two seriously, when two motorcycles heading in opposite directions crashed early Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Route 184 and Tollgate Road.

    Town police said the driver and passenger of the motorcycle heading east on Route 184 suffered serious  injuries and were flown by Life Star Helicopter to Hartford Hospital, while the driver of the second motorcycle, which was headed west on Route 184, was brought  to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.

    Police said they received mutiple 911 calls about the crash at 1:03 p.m. Police, Poquonnock Bridge firefighters, Groton Ambulance and Lawrence + Memorial paramedics responded. Route 184 was closed in both directions as police investigated. The Regional Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the cause of the crash. 

    Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about it to call them at (860) 441-6712.
