New London — The police activity at the corner of Montauk Avenue and Thames Street around noon Thursday was police taking into custody a man for whom they had an arrest warrant on gun charges, New London police Capt. Brian Wright said Thursday afternoon.

He said Shaquan Saunders, 25, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment in connection with an incident on May 1.

Wright said officers on May 1 responded to the area of 66 Jay St. for the report of a man firing a gun at a woman. There were no injuries.

Wright said the apprehension of Saunders on Thursday also resulted in the additional charges of possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
