New London — City police were investigating an apparent suicide late Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the CVS on Bank Street.

Chief Peter Reichard said the incident was reported shortly after 4 p.m. and an out-of-state man born in 1991 was transported from the scene with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police were investigating a vehicle with a Michigan license plate in the parking lot.

Police later said in a news release that the death does not appear to be suspicious. The man's name was being witheld pending notification of his family, the release said.
