A 37-year-old man from Norwich was charged with attempted sexual assault after allegedly soliciting sex acts from a child he met online in New London, police said.

William Meier, 37, of 301 Central Ave. allegedly spoke with a preteen online and tried to entice the minor to meet him and engage in sexual acts, according to the New London Police Department.

Meier was arrested at his home in Norwich on Aug. 6 with the help of the FBI New Haven Violent Crimes Against Children task force and was charged with second-degree criminal attempt of sexual assault, criminal attempt of risk of injury to a minor, use of a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity and carrying a dangerous weapon, police said.

He was being held on a $200,000 bond and was still in custody as of Tuesday, court records show.
