Stonington police searching for suspect in Pawcatuck bank robbery

Stonington — Town police were searching for a lone male suspect who they said took an undisclosed amount of money from a Charter Oak Federal Credit Union in Pawcatuck on Wednesday evening.

Shortly before 5 p.m., a man entered the bank and “implied a weapon,” leaving with “an undisclosed amount of money,” according to Capt. Todd Olson.

“We are looking for him,” Olson said. “It’s under investigation. Right now, we’re still trying to put it together and get the best description. With the mask and all that, it makes it a little difficult. Our detectives are working a few leads.”

Olson added that Stonington police called for K-9 assistance.

“We had our own K-9 unit on duty and Waterford’s K-9 came over to assist, because the individual did leave on foot, and they checked the area but were not able to find anything, probably because he got into a vehicle and left the area,” Olson said.

Further details were not immediately available.
