Mystic -- Stonington police charged a 66-year-old local woman with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after they say she drove her car through the rear of her garage and hit a tree last Tuesday afternoon.

Heather M. Campbell, 66, of 205 Masons Island Road, was released on a promise to appear in New London Superior Court Dec. 8.

Police said that when they arrived at the home, Campbell was still in the driver's seat and the car was halfway through the rear of the garage. She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police said their investigation revealed that Campbell had crashed through the garage about 45 minutes before someone noticed what had occurred.
