Man charged with possession of drugs, firearm in New London

New London — A city man was charged with alleged possession of illegal drugs and a firearm Thursday afternoon.

Giovanni Sierra, 27, of 23 N. Hawthorne Drive, Apt. A6, was charged with possession of narcotics, including crack cocaine, with intent to sell and illegal possession of a handgun.

Sierra was arrested in the area of Willetts Avenue and Montauk Avenue about 12:44 p.m. Thursday by officers on patrol for the city’s Quality of Life Initiative.

Police said they seized about 8 grams of crack cocaine, 1.6 grams of cocaine, scales, drug paraphernalia, a 9mm handgun with ammunition and $840 in cash from Sierra.

He was charged with two counts of possession of narcotics, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal possession of a firearm and possession of weapons in a motor vehicle.
